I know what you mean Pete.  Even now after 4 years in retirement (Wednesday was my fourth anniversary) there are still things that happened years ago that hang with you.

Leo

Just like the song in the Meredith Willson musical  THE MUSIC MAN sez..."Ya gotta know the territory"....You hit it on the head when you said you "talked the language".....It's been my experience that when you talk to an old head...I mean really old...if you can "talk the language"..and they know that you are  The real thing"..they open up and the stories start to flow.

Thanks for your good and diligent work...Nobody but you could talk to these guys and get the "good stuff" out of them....which some of us live for at these meetings.

BTW...Did I tell you my  50 year old flagging story??   I told a few times at the meeting, but don't recall whether you were in the audience...if I didn't just say the word and I'll post it here..

It's one of those..."I can't believe you remembered that"...story.

Pete

Those who attended the BRHS annual meet in Mendota got an insight into BB 50. Here's a bit more. Simply as FYI to let you know we are diligently working.............

Today I met w/ R W Chick, seniority date of 1942 and long time local chairman(griever) for the switchmen in the Aurora terminal. This was the second interview, the last,2 or 3 years ago,was via phone, today we met in person. I don't know who enjoyed the meeting more, but one thing is sure, the BRHS will benefit in BB50 with a real insiders view.

Bob is 91 and dealing with the usual physical difficulties of someone that age but his mind is sharp. As long as I had visuals and talked the language(those who sat thru my long presentation at Mendota know it comes automatically) he answered my questions w/o hesitation and even added more. It was a real pleasure for me to see the smiles that came to his face when I showed him certain things. I gave him a copy of a 1946 switchmans seniority list and he grinned ear to ear.

CVLK when you're ready I have the name of the missing individual and some neat attributes for each man in that drawing.

Leo Phillipp
