Gondola 71052 was a GA-7 from the group 70200-71199, built in 1911 by AC&F
with 12 drop bottom doors. They had an inside length of 40’, an
inside width of 9’ 6” and inside height of 4’ 4”.
The May 1936 ORER shows 17 left, but they were all gone by the following year.
Enlarging the photo on the Denver Library site, the number on the left hand car
appears to be 173131 which would make it a GA-8 from the group 172200-173199,
built by Pressed Steel in 1912, also with 12 drop bottom doors. These
cars also had an inside length of 40’ but the inside height was 4’
7”. Nine were shown in May 1936, but none 12 months later.

Subject: [CBQ] Gondola 71052
On page 44 of the recent book entitled The Burlington Waycar
by Randall Danniel, Marian Reis and Joe Douda thee is an Otto Perry photo
of a train repairing a washout. In the photo are two gondolas. The right one
appears to me to be numbered 71052 (though 71652 is a possibility). I can't
read the number of the left hand car. The photo was taken on August 29, 1933.
Can anyone tell me anything about the history of these cars? Were they later
renumbered? How long did they last?
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
