I had relatives living in Wedron back during 1940's and I remember the sand pit well. Back in the days of R Engines and Puddle Jumpers. We used to ride down on the morning Puddle Jumper to the station at Wedron. Silica Sand and gravel (from Sheridan) were big business for the Fox River Branch. During WWII, my uncle was an engineer on the Fox River Branch. I had my first cab ride on an R engine on V-J Day. My father was a Q switchman at Sheridan pit in 1914. In the late 50's, a broken wheel caused wreck on little bridge right at the sand plant. I have a picture of the wheel somewhere in my pix from then. When the Aurora Hook had done all it could do from the North and had go to Zearing to come up from the South via Ottawa. Meanwhile, the pile driver had to go to Ottawa to go in the clear for the hook.
