John, by later cars, do you mean more modern vehicles, e.g. 1940 or 1950
models, or do you mean that a 1930s vehicle would have been repainted maroon in
later years. I don't know the make or model year of the car in the photo. I'm
trying to determine the paint scheme for the post-war period circa 1950. If the
vehicle was painted maroon, would the lettering be Dulux Gold (yellow) or white.

Hol responded off list and agreed that the car in the photo wasn't black, but
he says the lettering is Dulux gold.

All I can say is that the later "Hi-Rail" cars were mostly painted maroon.

Hol,

I doubt that the car in the attached photo was painted black, and the lettering
does not appear to be Dulux. Any other thoughts?

BLI recently issued a track inspection vehicle with DCC for CB&Q among other
roads. The car comes painted in a very light gray with white lettering. I found
a photo of a similar vehicle, CB&Q 9028, and while the lettering is white, the
body paint is darker than the BLI paint. Since the photo is black and white, I
can't determine the color for sure, but it's probably a slightly darker shade
of gray than the BLI paint. I don't think it's mineral red or Omaha orange.
What color were 1930 vintage track inspection cars painted?
