Between St. Paul & Chicago most cars had their vestibules paired. You boarded thru one and carry on baggage was loaded thru the other. Dome cars had the vestibule trailing becausr that also was the dome stair configuration. Seats in the dome faced forward and the stairway was behind you. You view was not distracted by activity in the coach and at night your view also was not distracted. So did the slumbercoaches. The dome coaches generally ran with vestibule to the rear, though they could be run either way.
