Nelson,
I have two Atlas O scale E7s that I just ran for the first time a few nights ago. One is wired correctly while on the other, the Mars light does not flash but the class lights do. They also flash back into the cab. I may take it apart today. I probably have to disassemble both units to compare the wiring from the decoder. You are right, you shouldn't have to do repairs like this on models that cost almost $600 per unit, but it does happen and it is easier to fix it myself.

The models are very nice, however the Mars lights on the two A units are wired incorrectly to the headlight, hence they don't work. They turn on, dim, and go out in reverse with the headlights. Apparently, the Chinese manufacturer hardwired the FX5 output of the Tsunami decoder to the headlight. I checked with my dealer, and all CB&Q A units he has in stock have this defect, while the Mars lights operate properly in the D&RGW A unit he tested.
I'm offering this as a heads up to other buyers. It should be a simple matter to rewire the decoder output, but purchasers shouldn't have to do that just because Athearn or their Chinese manufacturer screwed up. A warranty claim does no good since all CB&Q units apparently have the defect. It's either rewire or return for a refund.
