I believe I have asked this question previously but have never received  a 
response.

In the Buhrmaster photo of Motor #9841 attached to Digest No. 5397 as well as 
in other photos of the Q's gas electrics, there are a group of interconnected 
curved pipes just forward of the exhaust stacks.  Can anyone tell me what the 
purpose of this assembly is?
