Rodney,

The Q originally did not plate over the windows, kept the Allied Full Cushion trucks, and used the railroad roman lettering from 1947, when the bought the troop kitchens from the US Army, converted them, and placed them into express service.  For HO, the railroad roman decals would need to be the Champ PH-36 for Bronze Gold and PH-36D for Dulux Gold.  There is some question over which color was used.  You would also need to cut up the Burlington and apply it letter by letter to be totally accurate. Both of these sets are out of production.

In 1952, the Q started to plate over the windows and changed to the A-3 ride control trucks.  At that time, they typically changed to the new "ribbon style" lettering.  These can be done with Microscale 87-752 set or the late Ed Derouin had made a set of the "ribbon style" lettering in both Dulux gold and black.  If you are interested I have extras all of these decals except the PH-36 set.  You can contact me off-list.

I don't know the answers to your other two questions.

Rich
