So true Leo. Down here in the coalfields, many a conductor/engine forman, yard clerk and agent made "a few extra bucks" seeing that certain mines had enough empties!

Bob

It's been over 30 years....... I would say 20-30/day in the early to mid 70s higher  in the later 70s. I understand it was lower in the 60s. But like many industries car supply flows were critical . The more empties available the more that could be loaded.

Even today many in the industry fail to understand that an empty is as important as a load

Leo,

I neglected to ask about the volume of traffic out of National Silica, i.e. how many loads were pulled daily?

Thanks,

Bob Herrick
