I wonder if it was just the advertising department using the GN paste-up for a coordinated ad campaign or if there was some serious thought given to color-coordinating the motors used on the Empire Builder and the North Coast Limited to their consists?   Brings to mind  a bunch of fantasy schemes, doesn’t it??!!!!

I was on the Great Northern Yahoo group and spotted some comments about an ad from 1947 that appeared in the Chicago Tribune newspaper.

It showed an E7 in Great Northern paint scheme but with a BURLINGTON logo on the nose of the engine. Glad the Q never painted it's E7's in GN paint.

I found this most interesting, as it is for the "NEW" Empire Builder. I am sure that the Hill group had something to do with this ad.
