With Adobe's Creative Suite 6 now current, previous versions still in use and numerous on-demand publishing websites (one of which I've used with success),  publishing a book has never been easier. Of the websites offering book publishing, I've looked at two and used one. Both offer browser-based book design. The company I chose supported .pdf upload of a typeset manuscript, which I did.

Uploading a ready-to-print .pdfs keeps the book's printing vendor agnostic. To wit, proof and/or demonstration copies could be printed through a web-based printer. These copies would be fully finished, like books found in brick & mortar bookstores. Great time to catch typos! If the book is marketable, the pdf could then go to a high-volume printer. That proof copy could serve as an guide if there are decisions to be made adjusting the .pdf to run on a large commercial press.

Hundman was indeed working on the first of the multi-volume set when Bob decided to shut down his publishing business, and Bill Schultz has since held on to all the material and hopes to self-publish it upon his retirement from railroading in a few years.  This passage of time will hopefully allow the recent spate of Zephyr books to find their full market and will allow his complete and definitive history to find the market it deserves.

Bryan-

I heard that he was having problems finding a publisher that would not edit out most of the detailed information that he painstakingly came up with to write what would (hopefully will) be the definitive history of the Zephyrs on the CB&Q.

It was rumored that he had been working with Hundman Publishing but that was just before Bob folded up the magazines so I doubt anything will be forthcoming from that quarter.   Maybe the success of the CB&Q Waycar book will throw some encouragement towards moving the project forward again.   I know I would have to buy a set of books even if the $$$ was high.
