This unit was repainted in the roundhouse at Denver in January 1970 by painters Ray Anderson and Larry Hooker, and the slide being offered on eBay was photographed at the Denver locomotive servicing facilities soon after completion of the work.  As close as it was to the anticipated merger date and as badly as the locomotive was needed back in yard service, Ray and Larry were told to leave off the 24" Burlington on the hood and the white sill stripes.  And the locomotive numbers were merely stenciled, with the stencil gaps left unfilled.  Attached is a shot I took of the unit the day it came back into service after the repainting; the view was taken about 100 feet from the view on eBay.

Larry Hooker had been a Denver-based dining car waiter until that service was reduced to the point he lost the position.  He then worked for a time as an office car waiter, until most of the office car fleet was eliminated.  At that point he was offered the opportunity to remain employed by the Q by becoming an assistant to Denver roundhouse painter Ray Anderson, who was soon to retire.  Larry learned how to paint locomotives from Ray, and when Ray retired shortly after the BN merger, Larry took over and held the position until the EPA forced the railroad to stop painting equipment in open roundhoue stalls and most painting was moved to the new paint booth constructed at West Burlington.

Subject: [CBQ] NW-2 paint scheme

I've come across a new variation of the switcher paint scheme at
http://www.ebay.com/itm/ORIG-SLIDE-BURLINGTON-CB-Q-9403B-EMD-ROSTER-/251145088256?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3a7969ed00

The undated photo shows a black NW-2 #9403B with the usual
grey top of the hood and cab, and a full colour herald on the cab sides, but with white stripes on the nose and nothing on the sides of the hood. It  is similar to the BN repaint but it has retained its CB&Q identity on the nose and cab sides, and its number.
