The special paint served two purposes.  One was strictly PR in that the UP thought its yellow cabooses did not compare  appearance-wise to the much brighter, usually clean, Q waycars on the run-through trains.  The second was more practical, in the era before multi-channel radios, the special paint made the cars so equipped stand out on  the caboose track.  Among the units so painted were 25151, 25402, 25407 (coupola only, I recall) and 25441.   There was a discussion of these cars back in the early days of the UPHS Streamliner.  Please allow for a not-completely reliable memory but I think this is pretty accurate.  Jim Sandrin
