As I recall the story the MU cables were simply strung down the aisles of the two intervening coaches
What made it work is the two motors used already had bidirectional controls so it was a matter of just connecting the two temporarily. I imagine the control wiring was jury-rigged so any electrician could handle it

Where would the work have been done to make the temporary electrical connections?  If the work was done at Aurora, perhaps the run was to somewhere around Hinsdale (about 21 miles), rather than take the train into Chicago and start again from there.

From the test description it sounds like they went out to Downers Grove? making stops and then ran express back to Chicago?
