Does anyone have a photo of the Western Springs
signal tower or the semaphore block signals for east-bound trains that
was roughly opposite the signal tower? The tower was situated on the
north side of the tracks, to the east of the depot - possibly about 70 yards
from the end of the west-bound platform.
Is there a diagram that shows the actual
location of the tower or signal? The tinted photo of Western Springs on page 58
of Burlington Bulletin #38 shows a white building towards the right-hand
edge of the photo that I presume was the approximate location of the signal
tower, if not the tower itself.
The photos would be used to illustrate a Bulletin
article about a crash that occurred at Western Springs in July 1912 in
which the signals played a significant part. Alternatively, does anyone
have a photo or plan of the other signal towers built along this stretch of the
track in 1890 when block signalling was introduced?
Thank
you
