At least with the Alclad II paints, you are supposed to spray them over a coat of black.  I'm not sure if that is the same with other metalizer paints.

I recently picked up one of the latest run of Con-Cor's "Pioneer Zephyr" and was disappointed to see that it was finished in plain old silver paint. Maybe it's just me, but given the state of the art today (and the model's $400+ price tag) I would have expected a plated finish or at the very least a more convincing metallic look (a la the Proto 1000 RDC's).

Has anyone here had any experience with painting one of these using the metalizer paints? I'd really rather not strip the whole thing; how well do these coexist over the factory paint?
