Leo:

Coors has always been coal powered and remains so to this day, currently using northwestern Colorado coal delivered over the Moffat line.  Natural gas is certainly available, but Coors finds coal less expensive and ore efficient.  For a time in the 1980s Coors owned and operated its own surface coal mine north of Keenesburg, Colo. (on the Q/BN), but trucked the coal to Golden.

I live about 15 minutes from the Golden brewery, and, of course, the Colorado Railroad Museum, which is directly across from the brewery's railyard.

I past by the Coors plant in Golden,CO today and was suprised to see the # of loaded coal cars inbound to the plant. Does anyone know what at this time Coors is using the coal for and why? By that I mean isn't natural gas available ?

Thanks,

Leo Phillipp
