Nelson,
G-E's 625-629 were built as Mail-Coach motors in 1928. In 1930 they were renumbered 9625-9629 by adding a 9 to the front of the number. they had 37 non-smoking seats and 16 smoking seats. Between 1932 &1936 they were rebuilt into Baggage - Mail - Coaches 9814-9818 with 22 non-smoking seats
Motors 9814-9818 are the only Q G-E's to be imported in brass.

Dorin lists 9816 as Mail/Passenger with 37 non-smoking and 16 smoking seats, while the original spreadsheet lists 9816 as Passenger/Baggage/Mail with 22 seats. The photos I have of 9816 clearly show a baggage door, and there aren’t enough windows for a total of 53 passengers, so I don’t have an answer for the discrepancy. The same issues apply to 9818, but I don’t have any pictures of that motor car. Nelson
