Sam et al...It was the 9769 sold by the Q to Iowa Southern..sometime in the 60's..
I worked a local from Hastings, NE to Huntley, NE 3 days'week and Hastings Sutton Lushton and Clay Center two weeks in 1956 wi;th this machine. There was no seat for a second person in the cab so both brakeman rode the waycar...Sillly me....how many times do I think.."Well, you dummy" you could have gone up and ridden the cab whenever you wanted to"...Hindsite is wonderful ain't it.
I might recognize the sound if I heard it, but I don't think it compared to a VO 5..The RI had one working in the yard at BI when I was there, but I don't think the sound was similar.
Pete

When they used the doodlebug instead of electric power, it made life easier at the college ham club. Our 80 meter dipole was parallel with the overhead wire and when they turned on the rotary convertor, it wiped out the ham bands. I was not yet into railroad photography - darn.
