Nelson - I rode them near the end of their career after they were converted to diesel, they made a lot more noise when they were gasoline powered. Some of the motor cars, such as 275 hp 9726 were noisy after being converted to diesel, maybe there was a difference in the exhaust system. If 9841 or 9849 had to haul a load of freight, as it did several times when one of them was required to haul a car or two of cement from Superior westbound, then they made more noise, but nothing like the sound of the 400 hp motors. The Rolls motor sound would be OK on your layout, unless you like the sound of a Cat motor under a slight load. I don't remember what type of diesel motor was put in 9841 or 9849, but they were certainly not loud by any means. Hope this helps. -Richard ------------------------------------ Yahoo!
