Thanks for the info, and yes, I do realize there are multiple types of
polymers and resins used for there various types of plastic
products. I've been doing some research in my quest for answers and
it's all pretty interesting how all of the plastics get made from start
to finish!

Subject: Fwd: [CBQ] Covered Hoppers in Plastic Pellet Service
Ricky,
My experience at UTLX was the early PP cars in that fleet were in the
4,000 plus cu ft range. I dont recall the exact capacity and seem to
recall the oldest cars were built in early 70s. There may have been PP
CHs in the 60s but I cant say for sure. I do recall as a young boy in the
early 60s watching PP being unloaded from a truck at a plastics plant in
bags. They dropped a couple and pellets went everywhere !
Starting in the mid 70s cars of 5,250 cu ft capapcity were mass produced.
Then came the 5,850s and today its 6200s.
In the early 70s North American Can at Batavia on the West Chicago branch
was receiving PP CHs and shipping out dish soap bottles in 50 ft box
cars. The plant was built in,I believe in 1957. The plant is still there
on the south end of town but under a different name. Had CHs spotted when
I went past a month or so ago. Also there was a company in Montgomery on
Auccutt road receiving pellets. I think it was named Processed Plastics
but I could be confusing it with another company name.
Also in the early 70s Dart on the West Batavia branch at north Aurora(
just south of the tollway) received pellet type hoppers with product for
cups mfg there. That plant is still there and still receiving CHs. Went
by it yesterday.
Finally, just as info, keep in mind that plastic pellets and plastic pellet
cars are a generic term. There are dozens of types, grades, sizes, etc of
various plastic and resin products shipped in the cars.

Subject: [CBQ] Covered Hoppers in Plastic Pellet Service
Does anyone know if and what LO's were used in plastic pellet service in
the late 60's. Alternatively, were there any industries along the Q
that received plastic pellets and what cars these were served by?
Thanks
