You guys are great!

I'm in the same boat as Jeff, but while I have checked eBay and other online retailers daily for months now, nada in the way of cars.  I can find the N scale version, but not HO.  When I got around to looking into doing the MDC cars with Herald King decals, I found Hearald King was out of business (I always seem to be a day late and a dollar short trying to do this train).  I was only able to find ONE set of the Hearald King decals.  At that point I gave up until I found out about the Athearn run of these cars.

Thanks for the help on this,
Joel

The Q and CN&W did not run power through. They exchanged power at Girard, between Centralia and Beardstown. Centralia crews ran in turn around service. Sometimes they would go up waycar light and other times would come back waycar light. This one of the few runs north of Centralia that Centralia freight pool crews handled. Along those same lines, Centralia crews also handled trains from Centralia to East St. Louis and North St. Louis and return via Shuttac. When the "siversides" started going to Machens, there was a special pool set up with Centralia (old Beardstown Division) and North St. Louis(old Hannibal Division) crews. If I remember right, it was three Centralia crews and one Hannibal crew.

Hi Joel,

I'll have to do some digging to find the rest of those photos. WE was nice to go through what they had showing the train from that era (I'm interested in the late 1960s) - only three photos though. They were taken at the power plant, so there was no Q locomotives to be seen. Drat.

Towards the end of that Bulletin article was a description of the train. The Q handled the trains for some distance and handed them off to the CNW for movement to Wisconsin. Can't remember where the trains changed hands right now. I'll dig that up too when I get home (in Rhode Island right now...).
These green cars lasted into the early seventies when they changed to the beige scheme.

I missed out on the Athearn sets when they were released but I scoured the internet for two sets (hint - search by stock number). My original goal was to model these cars with MDC cars and Herald King decals, but I sat on it for so long Athearn saved me the trouble. Sold off the MDC cars but still have the decals.

I've wanted to model this train ever since the Bulliten artical on the coal fields. Then I find out about the Atheran cars about 6 months ago, yes that is years after they came out. Anyway Jeff, I see you indicated one of the photos shows CNW power. A friend of mine models CNW and we'd like to each run a train (that is if we can ever find the cars). Could you post the other WEPX photos you got from Wisconsin Electric? Of if that is too big of a hassle, let me know who you contacted there so I can try to get the photos directly? Thanks, Joel
