On some waycars, the marker brackets were on the toilet end by the door.

I concur with Cy, the interior seems to be mostly intact but missing the stove. The protective tin above the stove area for the smoke stack is still present.    Of course the coal bin and sink were out of camera reach as well as the dry hopper toilet.  I remember how the old conductor would throw a fit if you used his toilet especially if you didn't line it with old newspaper first.  Wonder if someone still makes those narrow horse hair mattress pads?  I don't see the two brackets on the end of the bunk that held the markers when not in use, either.  A layer of 1/4 inch plywood has been applied over the old car siding walls it appears.  That was common practice too.  All in all it seems to be in great shape and a donated stove would be the cherry on top of the sundae.  What group or who owns it?  Archie

Interior appears unchanged, only cleaned and painted(wrong color).   That's better than doing nothing.

Larry,

I have been home for a couple of days and finally had a chance to access my photo storage drive. Attached are several photos of the Q caboose #14353 that is displayed at Walnut Grove Pioneer Village in Long Grove, IA. These photos were taken in September, 2010. As can be seen from the photos, the caboose is in less than good shape, The exterior needs a lot of work and, I suspect that the interior is somewhat modified from it's "in service" condition. It doesn't appear that much if any work is being does to improve the exterior condition. The end sills in particular, are in bad shape.

Larry,

Actually, the Long Grove, IA address is correct. The place where the caboose is located is a county park called Walnut Grove Pioneer Village. There is not town of Walnut Grove in that area except for the re created village at the county park. I took some photos of the caboose about a year and a half ago. I am not home right now, but will find the photos and post one or two when I return early next week. On days when the park is open, the caboose interior is available for viewing. The caboose is in relatively good shape. It is coupled to a small four wheel gas locomotive. If you search the address on Google maps, you can see a satellite of the park and the caboose.
