As many of you know, the Kable Printing/Quad Graphics printing plant here in Mt. Morris was shuttered earlier this year.  Quad Graphics has hired a national scrapper from Tennessee to come in and scrap 95% of all production equipment and sbulding infrastructure, boilers, power substations and such.  Removal of equipment will begin in January and continue untill finished thinking it will take about 6 months to complete.  Production equipment will all be scrapped and can't be sold as uasble production equipment.  I learned yesterday that much of the scrap will be leaving Mt. Morris by rail and going to Tennessee to their facility.  There are crews working behind the plant now repairing several washouts under the rail getting ready for train movement.

This is very sad for Mt. Morris to see this happen to an employer that was here for 113 years of very sucessful operations.  After the machine scrappers are finished they plan to tear down about 70% of the building leaving only the last three warehouses standing as planned at this moment.  But for the Q guys and railfans in general there will be one more opportunity to catch train movement on the branch ilne as they take gon loads of scrapped equipment out of here headed for Tennessee.  After that is anyones guess...the village and the ED group is working hard to find a buyer for the remaining building and to keep the rail line from also falling to scrappers or a bike path in the future.  Time will tell.  I will try to post when I have more info on train movement on the line but I know it will be spotty and on demand at best.
