During the “divestiture” breakup of AT&T / Illinois Bell I was assigned to work on splitting building assets between the companies.

One of the sites was a microwave repeater location at Eola……

 

….I had copied my collection of CB&Q drawings onto microfilm aperture cards and happened to have a print of the Eola Coaling Tower at my desk when my AT&T counterpart was in the office for a meeting.   I told him I had a drawing of the “Eola Tower” and when he looked at it, he said “S.O.B……it is made of wood!!!” thinking it was the microwave tower!!!!

Wonderful to see a view of Aurora/Eola/Naperville before the population
explosion/suburban sprawl of the last 30 years!
