Subject: [CBQ] Re: Rochelle,IL
I worked in the then new Del Monte distirbution center, plant 199, for three
months in the summer of 1964. Boxcars going to storedswith mixed canned and dry
goods were shipped out during the day and inbound boxcars from cannaries were
unloaded on the second shift that I worked. That is why the plant needed to be
switched twice a day. One night a boxcar in the yard was not tied down
correctly and got loose. The yard was higher than the building as mentioned
earlier. Luckly the door to that track in the building and the ramps across the
tracks were up or not in place. The car slammed against the bumper post at the
end of the track and "jumped two feet in the air" accordind to those who saw
it. Although I did not work on it I heard that this car was a mess to unload,.
