Subject: Significant CB&Q ?O? Gauge Auction
My collection of 120+ pieces of O Gauge model train equipment is available
at auction and can be viewed now. The first online auction will take place
on July 24th by Ambrose Bauer Trains. They are presenting this online
auction, which includes a good portion of my CB&Q, Burlington Route, and
California Zephyr trains. The July 24, 2011 catalogue can be viewed at:

While they are still populating this auction, my ?Q? items start from item
293. A few more will be added to this July 24th group in the next few days
while subsequent auctions will include the remainder of my collection. I
felt that your organization should know of this treasure trove and thought
many of your members would be interested in this opportunity to acquire so
many CB&Q model trains in one place.
Background: My late father, Mack Vaughan, worked in the Chicago headquarters
for the VP of Operations office of the Burlington Route for 40 years until
mid-1960. Being old enough to remember elegant train travel and being the
beneficiary of almost free travel as a child, I have a very soft spot for
all things Burlington. As such, I was also an avid Lionel Electric Train
buff. In adulthood, any O Gauge Burlington (no BN) was sure to be added to
my childhood collection. Alas, time marches on, and I realized that living
in a Chicago condo would not allow these items to ever be used
appropriately; someone else could better enjoy their fun and historical
significance. At the end of June, I reluctantly entrusted 37 boxes of
equipment to Paul Ambrose part owner of Ambrose Bauer Trains and coauthor of
the authoritative Greenberg?s Guide to Lionel Trains.
Burlington fascination also allowed me to acquire memorabilia over the years
that have been donated to the fledgling museum, the Dunleith Railroad Museum
in East Dubuque, Illinois. Items acquired include conductor uniforms and
hats, a CB&Q station ticket box , schedules, travel brochures, dated
railroad tie nails, silverware, china, ash trays, menus, 19th century annual
reports, and many other items. Their collection of many other historical
pieces has been displayed in the East Dubuque Public Library; however, they
are in the process of securing a more permanent display venue. Dunleith
was the original 19th Century name of East Dubuque.
