I just received a shipment of kits from Sunshine, including kit 54.5, 36 ft. single or double deck stock car. The prototype data sheet states that the underbody and trucks were black and the rest of the car was mineral red. Color photos in BB#25, p. 73 clearly show one SM-16 painted as indicated above, however the other color photo shows mineral red trucks, and the suggestion that the underbody was also painted mineral red, though the shadows under the car partially obscure the color. Spoor's color book on freight and passenger cars starts with SM-19 stock cars, so that didn't help. Were some of these cars painted entirely mineral red, as were many Q box cars? Were some series numbers painted one way and others painted the other way? Were the inside boards of these cars painted mineral red? Was the floor painted? Since stock cars are 'see through', even with the doors closed, I'd like to get the finish right. Nelson ------------------------------------ Yahoo!
