Jeff,
I would refer you to any and all of the following works:
BRHS Zephyr 59
Overtons "Burlington Route" Chapter 1
R&LHS from 1931-history of the Aurora Branch RR
R&LHS #74 Early CB&Q, which has fairly extensive equipment lists/operating
stats.
Thrift Corner Yarns "Auroras' First RR" from Aurora Savings and Loan
Assoc. Pamphlet
The Aurora Story. 1976
Historic Batavia. 1980
Centennial Record of Aurora,IL for 100 years. 1937
Brief Summary:
Line was built of second hand strap rail. Some of which was found during
the 1918-21 elevation project in Aurora.
After the line was completed from West Chicago(Turner JCT.) to Batavia and
then on to Aurora, the regular schedule was a 7 AM and 3PM dept from Aurora
and a 8AM and 3PM dept from Chgo. Running time of approx 2-4 hrs.
Aurora branch crews operated on G&CU to/from Chicago.
The "Pioneer" was the first locomotive used and was leased/barrowed from
the G&CU. In Oct 1950 the locomotive "Whittlesey" arrived and shortly
thereafter the "Pigeon". First depot in Aurora was North of Indian Creek near
Pearce ST. Soon moved farther south near Spring St. Little to nothing found on
first passenger cars.
By 1852 the line was expanding South through Aurora and then
West............... more on that to come in another medium someday ( I hope).
