I have a copy of Charlie and Tot's Trip Over the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy R.R. published in 1889 and written by Alva J. Beatty. It is ostensibly the journal of 8 year old "Charlie" who is traveling with his younger sister "Tot" to visit their uncle in Denver. Their excursion takes them via Kansas City and on to Los Angeles, San Francisco, Portland, Salt Lake and finally Denver via the Royal Gorge Route. Most of "Charlie's" writing sounds like it was ghosted by the Chambers of Commerce along the route. The book itself is covered with a maroon velveteen material and pages measure approx. 12"x16" in a horizontal format. Every other page is filled with advertising from businesses throughout the "Q's" territory. Was wondering if anyone else had seen this or similar books used as a means of promoting the railroad?
