Group,

I recently read through the "Burlington Bulletin" No. 23 from 1991 that
featured Burlington, Iowa. On page 76 and 77 there is a brief description with
some photos of Wood Tower located at Burlington south of the depot. Most of
the description and two interior photos are from a local newspaper article
written in 1950. From this description and two interior views it appears that
there was the main mechanical (armstrong lever type) interlocking machine that
controlled the plant on the Iowa side of the river and another smaller electric
interlocking machine that remotely controlled Illinois Junction just across the
river.

I am curious as to when the remote electric interlocking machine for Illinois
Junction was installed at Wood Tower and was there once a separate tower at
Illinois Junction that it replaced? Any other details about the interlocking
machines would be appreciated.

Best Wishes,
Bill Saenger
