Just to shed an overview on this interesting discussion of crew calling stories. Why was it so difficult to find a guy to go to work? Because he was tired from working 12-16 hours a day seven days a week and wanted a day off. Working for the RR(any RR) was a love/hate relationship, at some point the $ just didn't matter any more. You needed to be away for a few hours. Leo Phillipp Ps- a future Zephyr article will have a real life example.
