With the Spring Meet being held in Batavia this year (and only  about 7 
miles away), would this be a good site for railfanning and maybe seeing  what 
is still there from CB&Q days?

You got it. Remember the elevation was put in with the old  alignment still 
being used for normal service and there was a full wye  between the 
C&I(Geneva 
Brancy)and the Main Line(used to turn the  helper engines which shoved the 
trains 
out of Aurora westbound) (There was  also a ramp between Clark and Benton 
Streets 
before the concrete bridges  were put in) The Eastbound Main was filled and 
put 
into service on April  20, 1920(the big fill from Montgomery to Rathbone 
and 
Sard Ave.) (use to  cut asparagus along the east side of it) There was a 
guy in 
the Passenger  Dept at BNSF who had been talking to METRA about running the 
third 
main  back thru town and all the way to the Bypass 30 and I told him he 
could not  
do it acct the fill. He did not even know about it being too narrow for  
three 
mains.

Thank you Leo and Steve. As always, your stories are great! Just  so I am 
clear, 
the sheepyard lead is currently the track that parallels  mains 1 and 2 to 
the 
west through Montgomery? It starts at the C&I  main, drops down a little to 
the 
switch leading into the sheepyard and  then back up to where it joins main 
one 
across from the old Lyon plant? I  always thought that was the 'old north 
main'. 
If so, is the old north main  actually down in bowl of the sheepyard 
itself? If 
so, I'm thinking its the  track closest to the elevation - correct?

reference

By the way - I am modeling in N scale and am using Atlas code 55,  so 
compared to 
the bigger mainline track it should look pretty flimsy...
