In the early 1950's, my father would operate the Ottumwa boxcar loader at the Zeigler #2 preparation plant on some days. This was mostly if not always in the winter and was for receivers in the northern states. The boxcar loader was quite a contraption --- On Tue, 1/11/11, gaedgar66 <vje68@hotmail.com> wrote: From: gaedgar66 <vje68@hotmail.com> Subject: [CBQ] Addition to Misc photo file To: CBQ@yahoogroups.com Date: Tuesday, January 11, 2011, 12:01 PM Ad from Ottumwa Box Car Loader Co (Railway Age 1920's) The company possibly began as early as 1899 and apparently gone by the 1940's. Originally named for its founder as the 'Phillips Box Car Loader Co.' and later possibly affiliated with Ottumwa Iron Co. on W. 4th? Their Loaders used @ coal mines from Missouri to Utah to Montana. Plant may or may not have been on CB&Q trackage in Ottumwa. These loaders were part of a CB&Q Yahoo post on the subject in 2000. As they were sized for 40' boxcars it's doubtful any can be found today unless modified to load dump trucks or semi-trailer bodies? Anyone near Ottumwa to ck with local or Wapello Co. His. Soc?
