Doug
I would say halves and quarters and they would have been wrapped in large
sheets(That is the way we use to move our beef from the packing house to the
locker plant)((in a trailer or trunk of the car))
Yes the hot dogs, sausage, and misc. cuts would have been processed at the
packing house after all what is in those products. Sometimes we do not want to
know.
Then there are the Pigs Ears now being sold at Sam's
Steve in SC

Steve, would the LCL cars have contained halves and quarters? I agree no
"boxed meat" as known today. But it may have been meat that had been further
cut and processed at the branchhouse or a full processing packing plant. And
let us not forget the hotdogs, hams, sausages, and wide variety of cold
cuts, ie bologna, that were often advertised with well-known brand monikers.
I for one, appreciate the postings from all you former railroaders, and this
LCL meat peddler car string is great. I just presented my meat packing
clinics at a meet in Florida, now I have more material to insert when I show
the photo of a meat peddler car. Thanks to all.
