Group,
Rich Gortowski and I have been discussing the equipment built at Etnyre in
Oregon, some of which would have been shipped by rail either from Oregon, or as
Rich pointed out, driven to Mt. Morris to be loaded because Etnyre really did
not have easy loading at their plant. (It would have required street loading,
right Rich?)
Anyway, at Rich's suggestion I did some Google searching and found photos of
Etnyre equipment from the 1960's that is CURRENTLY for sale! Here are a few
links to Etnyre asphalt trailers and trucks. There are a lot of good detail
shots for kitbashing.
Early 60's on Chevy C65 chassis:

1970 Ford C chassis. Since Athearn makes a Ford C chassis this could be a
pretty straightforward conversion for late Q-era, as long as the Etnyre body in
1970 closely resembled the earlier bodies (which it appears from the early 60's
C65 chassis unit they did not change much):

1969 Etnyre asphalt trailer. Includes decent shot of rear suspension for

Here are shots of one of Etnyre's own semi-tractors, a Mack U686 tractor. The
U-series Mack's were introduced in 1966 and the R-series that Athearn makes
came out around 1965. The Mack DM was also introduced in 1965 and Alloy Forms
makes a DM800 cab (used a lot in construction, but usually a tandem axle
truck). Magnuson Models (later made under the Walthers brand) also made a Mack
U-Series cab, which can be found at train shows.
So for modeling Etnyre equipment for flat car loads, photo evidence shows you
could definitely use the Ford C-series cab from Athearn. Conjecture says the
Athearn Ford F850 could also be applicable, and perhaps the Mack R series. For
earlier than the late 60's other option could be the Mini Metals IH 160
tractor, and the Mack B-61. It would be neat if we could find other photos
using these cabs.
Hope this helps folks in modeling ideas. If anyone can point us to other
photos, that would be great! BTW, there is also a photo gallery on Etnyre's
site:
