Thanks so much for the lead on the "Smoke Abatement and Electrification of
Railway Terminals in Chicago".!!!!!!!!!!!!
Since the University of Illinois seems to have unencumbered access to my
checking account(one daughter is a senior there). As I have in the past, I
had her go to the library and low and behold the general library had a
copy(which has been in my posession for short term use). The engineering
library
has 6 more copies ! The copy I have now studied from cover to cover was
last borrowed in 1979.So they are not exactly in high demand.
Do not understand why, as there is a wealth of info on RR
operations, layout, etc if you dig into the book. The maps, charts, diagrams, photos
are a mass
of info. This study went on for years and must have cost a fortune.
Is there enough interest in Q, LCL operations in Chicago for me to find a
way to scan the mass of info on this subject and someday write an article
for the BRHS pubs. ?
Let me know.
Thanks,
Leo Phillipp
Ps-The shear volume of LCL operations of all the carriers is far beyond my
previous understanding.
If anyone is working on a "Lumber District" project you need to access
this book.
