The switch for the Aurora Branch was up west of the Geneva Depot with a long
curved grade down to the river. In olden days when the CNW branch was still in
one sunday morning a couple guys rode a pump type hand car down the branch.
Trouble was going back up the hill. A cop saw them at a crossing and took off
for the depot to catch them. But the trailer was sitting at another crossing
the hand car was loaded up and hightaled towards the west. Another trip was
down the Geneva Branch and turned on the J diamond and out to Rt. 30 and back.
No grades that trip. Another trip was the LS&BC

Leo-
Perhaps the track crossed was not the West Mainline of the C&NW but rather the
C&NW's line to Aurora.....

Subject: [CBQ] Geneva Branch-Annual Meet
I was doing research on an upcoming article, looking for info on So
Aurora,IL when I stumbled on an 1895 Q ETT in my collection. Found some things
that will be of interest for the annual meet at Geneva.
On the Chicago & Mendota line the "FRV Junction" was .3 miles west of
Montgomery. Note this is a junction, not a xing. On the Aurora & Forreston
Branch the Geneva switch is 1.6 miles west of the Aurora station at La Salle &
New York Sts.,.7 miles west of South Aurora and .1 miles west of the "J"
xing.
So this means that the "Fox Valley" trains would have to go to the Aurora
Depot and then travel west again to go up the Geneva branch. There 6 trains
each way on the "Aurora & Streator" branch and one round trip a day on the
"Aurora & Geneva" Branch. A second class train.
But here's the real nugget ,in the notes to the Aurora & Geneva branch TT:
TRAINS WILL COME TO A FULL STOP AT THE STOP BOARD BEFORE CROSSING THE C&NW
-RR TRACK AT GENEVA !!
How much farther North did the Geneva branch go ????????????????????
