Rupert, this has always been referenced when the origin of domes is 
brought about.  As are open observation cars, caboose copulas, and 
some other never-repeated concepts.  But the real source of the 
modern dome is the cab of a F-unit.   Without that, nothing else 
would have come to pass for years, if at all.
