I have a copy of this book, but the binding is so poor, many of the pages are
"loose". Bob Bullermann

--------------------------------------------------
This book is a compilation of CB&Q photos, most never published, by the late
Roy Campbell (edited by Tom Burg).
The books retail for $29.95 - I'll offer this final one for 25% off: $22.50
plus postage ($2.77 Media Rate - insurance or 1st class extra)
The book is 8 &12" x 11", horiz format with 148 pages of heavy coated stock
with 141 photos: very sharp!
Fifteen classes of Q steam are covered in alphabetical order from A thru S-4
including 6 C&S pics, 1 FtW&D and 3 action shots of the Pioneer & Twin Zephyrs.
Most were taken by Mr. Campbell from the 30's to the 50's; he died in 1965. As
Advertising Manager for Kalmbach, he traveled a lot & took 1000's of photos -
hardly any published. This is a compilation of his best CB&Q photos including a
few he swapped with other prominent rail photographers (there are 20 by Gerald
Best).
All of Campbell's pics were taken in Wisconsin, Illinois & Iowa (except the
C&S/FtW&D in Colorado) Most taken at Eola, the commuter line (inc. wood
coaches!), Dubuque, Prairie du Chien & LaCrosse. Among the unique pics are 4001
with shroud in LaX in "38, ex-Q 0-4-0T #573 working a quarry in Aurora and long
gone depots such as Prairie du Chien (the original wooden CB&N one), DeSoto,
Stoddard & Wyalusing. A lot of trackside detail is shown: coaling chutes,
signals, water towers, etc. There is also a system map & brief bilbiography as
all photos are well captioned. My two favorites are the MASSIVE coaling ramp at
No. LaCrosse dwarfing an 0-5 and the 'scale train' in Dubuque (steam loco, bunk
car, scale car & tool car). Also the side-by-said standard Q wood water tank &
unique steel tank at LaCrosse are shown as part of two photos from oppostie
ends; great for modelers.
Again, Contact me off list if you wish to buy the book. Gerald
