Gerald,
Fantastic find! If you took a photo of the Leonore depot, could you please
post for us? I also had the pork tenderloin lunch at Smitty's with Bob W,
Larry, Steve, & Bob H a couple of hours before your group. We rushed back to
the next BRHS clinic without cruising down Leonore's main drag and thus missed
the depot! I will be back down that way in June and will take alook for
myself.
Under Bob W's direction, we later followed the abandoned IVN line from
Steator's Broadway & Vermillion along Broadway to the Steator HS. Bob then
routed us west of town to where the IVN cme under a NYC bridge and headed NW to
LaSalle (there was still a "No Trespassing, BN, Inc."). Although in most
places the grade had been plowed under back in the 1980's, the power lines are
still there at a SE-to-NW angle through the farm fields along the abandoned
line. SE of Ticona, there are a couple places where the a small portion of the
grade is still visbile with some concrete culverts. North of Ticona, Bob also
showed us a ravine where supports from a curved IVN trestle are still visible
through the foliage. At this point, we drove back into Streator for the
dinner.
I also also thank thee Streator meet organizersfor another great meet. Gerald,
I enjoyed seeing you & Lee again and those were great postcards that you sold
me.
