John, I did an E8 using the following:

Model Master GLOSS black (#1147) as a base coat - I beleive that the black is
used to act as reflective base for the chrome. Let this dry completely (I'm
from the school that you wait 24 hours before touching the model and adding any
additional paints, decals etc.)

Then use ALCALD II CHROME (#ALC107) to spray over the black. Note the the
Alclad instructions recommend Alclad gloss black, but I heard from others that
Model Masters is better.

DO not use the water base paints, at least that is what I was told.

Now one thing that you have to keep in mind is to NOT paint over the chrome
once it has been painted on the model.

As a rule, for me that is, when painting a model, I always give it a coat of
gloss before I decal the model. Then when the decals are set, I always give the
model an overcoat of dull to hide the decal film. This has been the practice
for most professional painters.

However, I made a big mistake on the E8, after decaling it, I thought I would
run a coat of dull coat over it to hide the decal film once the decals had set.
BIG MISTAKE. So when your done decaling the model, keep that in mind.

I would be interested in knowing how your E5 project comes out and how you
kitbashed it. I know many others would also be verying interested in it as
well. Perhaps you can do an article for the Zephyr, take lots of photos.

Good luck.
