The Burlington really got hit hard that year, with this flood and then the June
16th flood at the west end in Colorado.

Matt, I am new to the group and your email brings back memories. As a junior in
high school I was released from school to sand bag in Rock Island. My
grandfather worked the CB&Q night shift moving traffic from the Rock Island
station to Barstow junction and they were shut down by the flood as well. I
found Burlington Bulletin #21 in his things when he passed and the first four
pages address the flood, including the detour at Winona. Tried to post the
thing as a PDF to the Yahoo group site but the file is too big.
Don't know if you have it so I am trying to attach it to this email and will
bring it to the spring meet, in case anyone is interested.

This April it has been 45 years since the 1965 floods knocked out the Q at
Winona. Once of the images posed at the NOAA website is a aerial shot of the
junction showing the breach there.
