John, would you have a time frame for observations that suggest that? The
emerging picture seems to be that, if there was an engine change, it took place
more in the early years than later. Layover times in Burlington seem to have
dropped over the years as well, suggesting less switching of equipment. From
the sixties, there's photographic evidence of RI power in St. Louis and I have
RI personnel talking about their preference for Q power because of the braking
system. On the other hand, we do have one piece of documentary evidence and
some anecdotal evidence of an engine change, though the anecdotal stuff is from
people who slept through the change.
Thanks for your input and any further clarification you can offer.
Duncan

I was/am under the impression that there was an engine change at Burlington
and Rock Island ran from there to St.Paul.John

Sorry about the cross-post, but both gorups may have info about this. I've
been having a discussion with someone about the power for the Zephyr Rocket.
All the evidence I had pointed to run-through operations, including many 1960s
photots. However, two anecdoatal sources point to a power change in Burlington.
Does anyone have info that would help clarify this? Did policy change? Or were
there just occasional exceptions to a standard policy?
As always, any help gratefully received.
