Have one extra copy each, 1st Edition hardbounds, of 2 of Richard Overton
authoritive books on the Burlington:
BURLINGTON ROUTE publ. 1965. 556 pages of text (29 chapters plus 4 pp
Chronology); 8 pp. Biographical Notes; 23 pp Bibliography (books/articles about
the Q from A to Z!) & 40 pp Index. The text contains 32 pp of photos (63 in
all) plus 29 maps & 15 charts (these have their own 2 pp Index). It's in
excellent condition with full color dust jacket. Learn such things as the
Burlington's application to the CAB to run helicopters (yes, helicopters! )
from Des Moines & Galesburg for Zephyr connections and why CB&Q once considered
buying GN. (and their consideration of extending to the Pacific) Included is
the original small yellow page of "errata". This is a one owner copy.
BURLINGTON WEST publ. 1941 by Harvard Press. (subtitled "Colonialization
History of the Burlington Route) 488 pages of text plus 3 pp contents; 6
appendixes totaling 48 pp; 16 pp Bibliography & 25 pp Index. The text includes
27 illustrations, 29 maps and 11 graphs. In some respects this has more
coverage of the Burlington's roots than "Burlington Route". Extensive coverage
of B&MR & such detail as origin of the term "Burlington Route", the 25+ special
agricultural trains, the chicken farm in Nebraska leased to supply dining cars
& ties to "Buffalo Bill". Endpapers are a system map coded as to when each line
was constructed. Overton researched this while on the CB&Q payroll with full
access to all records & all employees. This copy is also a one owner in
excellent condition except it lacks the dustcover.
Best offers by Dec. 1 (so I can get them to you if intended as a Christmas gift
to yourself) Contact me offlist: vje68@hotmail. com Happy Thanksgiving! Gerald
