The 745th Railway Operating Battalion was sponsored by the Q but went to India
and helped run the Bengal and Asswan Railroad. My father-in-law was in it and
it will be covered in a future article Q and the Military still being
researched.

Subject: [CBQ] Annual Meet, "Zephyr" & Collectibles
I have been hoping an attendee of the Annual meet in Rockford would post a
report by now (I would have but missed the Business Mtg as was late setting up
for swap meet plus skipped the trip to IRM as had to be home later Saturday).
My highlight was the afterdinner showing of the multi-slide CZ presentation.
Saw it at a national NMRA yrs ago but this was as good or better as had been
updated.
Also I had hoped someone would have commented on the latest Zephyr issue by
now. I would but might be biased. That said, it is a VERY good issue with
balance between modeling, history, news, collectibles, etc. A real "keeper".
I especially like the feature on an industry in Aurora - this will continue to
be a good feature if more mbrs will participate.
Now for collectibles in particular. After summarizing results of my 'survey'
for upcoming topics, I indicated next would be poclet calendars but need some
pre-1939 to assist. To date NO one of the 1000+ mbrs of this group seem to
have any yet I know they are there (have seen one from the 1920's at the home
of a ret'd Q emp)
So again, anyone have pre-1939 Q pocket calendars to scan & provide for the
next Collectibles Column? Ditto for any of Q name trains (Except the Twin
Zephyrs which I have) or EMD's showing anything Q other than the F units (which
I have)
Thanks! And to our Veterans - thanks! Burlington sponsored an Operation
battalion in WWII that served in Europe and Ralph Budd, then Q president, was a
major force in our military RR's during WWII (and of course all those WWII
Troop Kitchen cars that came to the Q)
