A branch pipe off the train line goes to the brake valve assembly. Doesn't matter what kind of brake valve they are, AB ABD ABDW. In the branch pipe is a valve that will isolate the brake valve. If the brakes are applied on the car all you have to do is pull the air release handle that is attached to the brake valve and the air will release. So the whole both trucks are cut out. This is the way it is done on freight cars, NOT sure about passenger cars but I would think they would be the same way.
