I have another construction question, this time about Jacksonville, IL, specifically about MP 10 to MP 11.8 (south end of Curve 11A). The alignment chart shows construction of this section to be 1872. The Q maps clearly show that the original track constructed in 1872 did not follow the current alignment through Jacksonville, but rather was an extension of the tangent heading southeast of MP 12. It extended northwesterly into town, turned west, and dead-ended somewhere east of the joint GM&O-Q depot. North of MP 10, the line from Concord was constructed in 1904, and according to Baldwin's records was 9.96 miles long, so it would have ended north of the Wabash crossing. I would guess that the section from MP 10 to 11.8 was not constructed in 1904 by the J&C, or Baldwin's record would have reflected this fact. The only guess I can make is that the section from MP 10 to MP 11.8 was relocated by J&StL when the line from Concord was constructed. Any thoughts?
