All-

Sorry, Outlook decided to send the message before I attached the record and
finished...

I was at the Newberrry Library Saturday and in going through some
correspondence boxes came across an envelope containing filled out printed
forms for CB&Q Milk Traffic for three months in 1880. They provide an
interesting glimpse into the extent and volume of Milk Traffic on the CB&Q...
The purpose-built cars we have record of date fifteen years or more past this
time and we don't know what cars were used for this service (Milk and Cream
Cars).

I don't know how many cans typically fit into a 40' car but it seems like the
200 or so would require a couple of dedicated cars to handle. Since we now
know that the Milk Service extended beyond the Suburban territory we can look
in schedules to see what service was provided to handle this traffic.
Somewhere I ran across a picture of a milk platform in suburban territory.
Since the Cream and Milk cars were converted to other uses shortyly after WWI
we can assume the traffic dropped off to what could be handled in combination
cars, if any.
