When Mr. Dillion, owner of NWS&W died, so did the Earlville - Rock Falls - Sterling branch. Poor car service and defered track maintanance killed off most of the on-line business. As I recall, there was a little shortline just east of Amboy called the Lee County Central Electric RR; remember setting-out a 40 ft. boxcar on the interchange track for grain loading. Mr. Dillion made it a point to attend every abandonment hearing and prove that the branch was vital to his business. Bob Campbell Naperville, IL ------------------------------------ Yahoo!
